How it works

How Anti-wrinkle Injections Work-min.jpg

Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process. With age, our skin gets thinner, drier and we lose elastin. The ability of our skin to protect itself is reduced as we age. Eventually, wrinkles, creases, and lines form on our skin.

Continuous muscle contraction is also another major contributor to facial wrinkles. Continuous muscle movement causes 'dynamic wrinkles' which only appear when the muscle is used.

Over time, if untreated, these wrinkles can become 'static wrinkles' which means they become permanently etched in our skin.

Whilst the face is in motion the lines that appear are known as dynamic wrinkles, however, repeated movement over time forms deeper lines and folds known as static wrinkles.

Soften & Smooth treatments work to prevent the formation of static wrinkles, softening and smoothing the appearance of existing fine lines.

These treatments are most effective when used as a preventative measure.

Soften & Smooth treatments help to achieve the softening of lines and wrinkles while reducing the severity of visible wrinkles.

Individual results may vary. A consultation before the first treatment is required, so please notify us of any health conditions or medical history during this appointment. This information will ensure your individual needs are assessed and that appropriate guidance is given.

Side Effects

Depending on the sensitivity of your skin and any medications (like aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners) you may be taking, there is the chance of temporary, minor side effects including

- Mild swelling at or around the treatment area
- Mild tenderness or bruising at or around the treatment area
- Tiny red dots at the injection site
- A mild headache, depending on the treatment area

Next Steps

As results may vary, we recommend a follow-up appointment 2 weeks post-treatment to discuss your tailored treatment results.

Soften & Prevent

You don’t have to have wrinkles to know you don’t want them in your future. While their main purpose is to improve or temporarily remove existing lines, Soften & Smooth Treatments can be used as a preventative measure to help soften the expression lines that form when your face moves and put the formation of future lines on pause.

Look More Rested

With both age and repetitive muscle movement, lines settle into the face and are visible even at rest. It’s these static, 24/7 lines that can make your face look tired and fatigued. By softening those lines and wrinkles in the skin, your face looks fresher, more youthful, and relaxed.

Shape & Symmetry

Soften & Smooth Treatments can do more than just reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles; they can also be used to lift certain parts of the face and balance asymmetrical features.

Not Just For Wrinkles

Cosmetic Aesthetics can also be used to treat non-cosmetic areas. Some added benefits of treating targeted muscles include reducing excessive sweating (in areas such as the underarms).

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question not listed below? Visit our FAQ page to find more answers and info about our complete range of laser, skin, and cosmetic procedures.

  • Vaccines and Cosmetic Injectables

For Cosmetic Injectable treatments, we advise you to wait a minimum of 7 days before or after receiving any vaccination.

If you have any concerns, we advise you to seek medical advice prior to your treatment.

  • Do cosmetic injectables hurt?

Everyone experiences pain differently and has different pain thresholds. However, when it comes to Cosmetic Injectables, most clients compare the sensation of the face injections to a quick prick. There is a slight pinching feeling, but it only lasts for a few seconds.

At Laser Clinics UK, cosmetic injectable treatments require no anaesthetic. However, a topical anaesthetic can be used if needed. Please obtain this from your Pharmacist prior to your treatment.

  • How many units will I need to get rid of my frown lines and crow’s feet?

To determine the correct dosage, we advise you to book in for a complimentary consultation with one of our experienced Cosmetic Injectors at your nearest Laser Clinics UK location.

  • Can I get cosmetic injectable treatments while pregnant?

Your safety is our main concern and for this reason, we do not treat clients who are pregnant. We advise against all cosmetic injectable treatments whilst pregnant simply out of precaution and due to the lack of information available on cosmetic injectable treatment effects on the fetus.

  • How long do Cosmetic Injectables results last?

Cosmetic treatments begin to work 2-3 days after the treatment and reach their full effect within 7-14 days. The effects can typically last for up to 3-4 months depending on the individual.

  • How frequently should you have Cosmetic Injectables?

It is recommended to repeat the treatment before the muscle movements return to normal which is typically 3-4 months. This way there is an overlap in results and a continued softening effect.

  • I am booked in for cosmetic injectables. Do I need to do anything beforehand?

Avoid vigorous physical activity or any large intakes of alcohol for 24 hours as this increases the risk of bruising. Aspirin and Vitamin E should not be taken one week before the treatment.

  • What Injectable products do you use?

For legal reasons, we are unable to publish the brand names of prescription medicines. At your complimentary consultation, your Cosmetic injector can freely talk about which market-leading brand is suitable for you.
